Ash Taylor has been axed by the Gold Coast Titans ahead of their clash with St George Illawarra at Kogarah.

NRL.com.au reports that the Titans coaching staff and officials met during the week to discuss Taylor's position within the squad following an ordinary performance in the club's devastating loss against Sydney.

The Titans believe it is in the best interests of the club and the player for the 24-year-old to be be left out of the side for the upcoming match with the club monitoring the situation on a week-to-week basis.

Taylor is still training with the club, but could potentially miss the remainder of the season amid concerns he was brought back from his leave prematurely.

Gold Coast's new head coach Justin Holbrook, who is finishing the Super League season with St Helens, has previously coached Taylor and will keep tabs on his situation.

"I actually had him in the Junior Kangaroos and he was an outstanding young player,” Holbrook told NRL.com last week.

"He got man of the match in the game against the Junior Kiwis when I had him. I know he's an outstanding young talent. I haven't spoken to him yet but that's something I will worry about before I get there."

Taylor still has another two seasons remaining on his lucrative multi-million dollar contract and Gold Coast are still confident the former Bronco can bounce back from his personal issues and form struggles and perform.

In the absence of Taylor from the Titans' side, either AJ Brimson, Bryce Cartwright or Tyrone Peachy will line-up at the five-eighth position.

  1. Withn a new coach coming in, i don’t think the Titans should give up hope just yet, especially since Holbrook has coached Taylor before in reserve or junior leagues, i believe. Howver, if he continues to not live up to the hype and be a shadow of a million dollar player, maybe a chance of scenary for Taylor may be the best thing for him going forward
