Cronulla Sharks coach Shane Flanagan has confirmed that Josh Dugan and Valentine Holmes will be shifting positions for this week’s match against the Dragons.

Holmes was originally named in the No. 1 jersey when team lists were released on Tuesday.

Dugan will now start the match in the fullback position, with Holmes moving out to the wing to replace the injured Sione Katoa.

Aaron Gray will then shift from the wing into the centres.

Flanagan has said that it’s likely Dugan and Holmes will share the fullback role though during the local derby with rivals St George Illawarra.

The game will be the first the match-up for Dugan against his old club.

Dugan left the Dragons at the end of 2017, with St George Illawarra not willing to pay Dugan fullback money to play in the centres.

  1. Cheers to Flanno for a smart move. At long last he might get this nonsense sorted for the good of the team.

  2. Best getting it sorted early on in the season instead of halfway through the season as they have done in the past. If duges has a shocker then Moylan to fullback lol.

  3. One round down and already panic sets in.

If this was such an obvious and beneficial move then why didnt Flanno execute it last week. Who is running this show ?

  4. I don’t see how that will help with the biggest problem. The kicking game. Townsend was used to having Maloney’s good short kicking game at 5/8th. Now he has to worry about doing that as well. As Moylan’s kicking is ordinary at best. Teams need to get extra sets of tackles from restarts. Remember Penrith last couple of years running way to much on the last tackle , not getting the restarts of tackle counts. As they didn’t trust the short kicks into the in goal. Now neither of the sharks halves are that great at it.
However, if you put Moylan at fullback, he is slack at covering opposition kicks & not to good a defender in general.

  5. Put Matt Moylan to Fullback, he played for NSW there, Leave Dugan at Centre Australia Centre, Holmes on the Wing, Australia Winger, and put Kyle Flanagan at five-Eighth, absolute gun player

    • So you want to pay Dugan the money he is on to play in the centres and do nothing and pay Holmes the money he is on to be a winger hahahaha. Not to mention Moylan couldn’t catch a cold even if he had superglue in his hands. Me thinks you little about this game they league. But then again the same could be said about the idiots that signed Holmes, Dugan and Moylan on big money.

  6. I would have

    1: M Moylan
    2: S Feki
    3: R Leutele
    4: J Dugan
    5: V Holmes
    6: T Hodkinson
    7: C Townsend
