St George Illawarra winger Kalifa Faifai Loa has requested a release from the remainder of his Dragons contract.

Dragons Director of Rugby League Pathways Ian Millward has confirmed that Faifai Loa has requested a release and that he has also been given permission to negotiate a move overseas.

However, the 26-year-old veteran is yet to sign a contract with another club and will remain at the Red V until he signs elsewhere.

"Kalifa's situation is very similar to Mose (Masoe) - he hasn't quite played a number of games to play in the UK in 2018. However he's played adequate enough games to secure a contract and a visa for the remainder of the season in the UK," Millward said.

"He's come to us seeking a release but at the moment he hasn't agreed to a deal with anyone. He has a couple of clubs interested and we've given him permission to go and negotiate with other clubs.

"If he finds another club then he will leave in the coming weeks."
