Eels suffer early season injury crisis

The Parramatta Eels season looks set to get worse before it gets better with Jarryd Hayne, Bevan French and Kane Evans all ruled out for a number of weeks due to injury.

Already without 2017 sensation Clinton Gutherson, the Eels have been dealt a major blow with Hayne and French both injured in the loss to the Sharks.

This leaves the club in dire straights at the fullback position and Brad Arthur has been forced to named utility Will Smith in the No. 1 jersey for their Round 4 match against the Wests Tigers.

The club also lost versatile forward Brad Takairangi last week to a fractured eye socket and now Kane Evans will join him in recovery with a rib injury also suffered in the match against the Sharks.

The injuries to the key forwards have created the opportunity for Tony Williams to make his return for the Blue and Gold after he was named on the interchange bench this week.

Arthur has also made another change to the side that has yet to win a game so far in 2018, with Cameron King bumped to the extended bench and Kaysa Pritchard given the starting role at hooker.

The Eels play the Wests Tigers on Monday at ANZ Stadium.

  1. The only real loss there is French from the wing.
Hayne is a bludger and the team will play better without him.
Kane Evans has to be one of the worst forwards in the game so no loss there.
Will Smith played fullback for us last year many times and for me was the next best thing to King Guth.
French is a fantastic winger but is an average fullback.

    • French is useless anyways…
Now you have Kaysa Pritchard lol, easily the worse hooker in the comp…
Trex, I’m sure his attitude is great this year in that eels team that are just full of big noters thy can’t back up there words..
Eels are in shambles, and would be clear spoon favourites…

        • Yeah truth is bad when it’s laid right in front of you hey???
What pet of my statement would be wrong??? The Pritchard being useless or that everyone knows the eels team are a bunch of egomaniacs

        • Parts of your statement that are wrong:
French is useless. Wrong. He is one of the best finishers in the game.
The Eels are a shambles. Wrong. We only won 2 of our first 6 last season but still finished 4th. Where did your team with the 10 million dollar fraud finish?
We are clear spoon Favourites for the spoon. Wrong. According to sports bet the Titans are the clear favourites at $126. Parra are at $23 which is still better than Manly at $26. LOL
As for everyone knows the eels are a team full of ego maniacs just because a manly supporters says it doesn’t make it so.

        • Yeah sorry dude…
French is useless, he’s a winger who wants to be fullback so that’s another ego I’m there being disruptive…
Eels are I’m shambles. Um right… plain and simple, not arguments there…
Tab may have others at more of a price then eels, but those teams are supposed to be there, not tipped to be top couple and fold under the pressure of being a team full of individuals…
It’s ol though, you have 1 more manly cheating dig then off to bed for you, I’m sure school starts at 9.

  2. It’s amazing how when a team goes bad injuries pile on, Parra will come good, but i think their season is over, i had them top 4 this year, not sure signing Hayne was a good idea, not saying he is the cause , but he looked terrible, fitness wise, in the off season, but i think they could go better if he was not there to be honest.
