Brisbane have been handed some promising injury news, with forward Josh McGuire escaping serious injury.

McGuire will not need surgery on his ankle after injuring his anterior ligament in the Broncos' win over the Rabbitohs.

The Brisbane star also escaped any Achilles tendon damage, and will now be sidelined for only six weeks.

"The good news is Josh does not require any surgery and he will now undergo a normal rehabilitation," Brisbane's High Performance Manager Jeremy Hickmans told broncos.com.au.

"We expect this would keep him out football for a maximum of six weeks, but with a successful rehab period there is hope of an even earlier return."
