James Roberts has signed with the South Sydney Rabbitohs for the next two-and-a-half seasons.

After he was released from the Broncos on Wednesday, Roberts immediately signed with the Bunnies, and will join the club in the coming days.

“I’m really excited to be coming back to Souths and playing under Wayne again,” Roberts told rabbitohs.com.au.

“There are some great players at this Club and I can’t wait to get into training and getting back on the field.

“I want to thank the Broncos for everything they’ve done for me and my family over the past four years, but it’s time to move on and to be coming back to the club that I consider to be home is really special.

“I know what it means to the Members, fans and the community to represent South Sydney.

Roberts will be available for selection for the Rabbitohs from round 13.

Earlier on Wednesday, Brisbane granted James Roberts an immediate release from his contract, on the basis of compassionate grounds.

Brisbane CEO Paul White told the club's website Roberts had asked for the release in order to return home to New South Wales with his young family.

“While we are disappointed to lose James, we understand his position – it wasn’t in the best interests of the Club to stand in the way of a player who has expressed a honest and strong desire to return home,” said White.

  1. Hopefully they didn’t over pay for him. He’s god when he’s god but man watching some of Brisbane’s games this year he put in zero effort on D and looked really unhappy and stuff. Not a good mentality to bring into a wining team but Bennett has coached him and after being dropped he will want to prove himself. They biggest take out of this is Brisbane getting more cap space

  2. There are definitely pros and cons to this signing all of the pros are his ability to play football but all of the cons are about his mental health. IF and it’s a big if Roberts can get his head straight and avoid slipping into the same mistakes he has done before will be a amazing signing for them.

  3. The Rabbitohs are now establishing themselves as the powerhouse of 2019 and all under the salary cap which is more than can be said for you all know which club.

  4. Its frightening to think how dominant Souths will be when they add Pangai , Mitchell and Oates to their roster over the coming couple of seasons.

  5. Broncos have now done what they have needed to do to sign Pangai, oates & Macca back up. Some good business decisions I think.

  6. Almost right, it will be Mitchell for 2021 but might ask for a release next year.
Why do you think he hasn’t as yet clearly stated will be staying at SATELLITE SOMBREROS?
Will be the bombshell news before Nov 30.
    You read it here.

  7. The broncs should send Macca packing aswell, they are playing a lot better without him. He offers nothing in attack.

  8. Hope he goes alright at the Rabbits, however he has been very disinterested this year at the Broncos and I am not too disappointed as his replacement Kotoni Staggs always gives 100% and I would rather a player like that who is willing to do the hard yards. Who knows, the Jet may yet take off for Wayne and the Bunnies.

  9. And the back2back19 profile. Anyway I’m sure he will be back to haunt us one way or another. BOO! 👀👀👀👀💀💀💀💀💀👻👻👻👻🧙‍♂️🧙‍♂️🧙‍♂️🧙‍♂️🧙‍♂️⚡🔥💥💥⚡🔥💥🐓🐓💥💥💥

  10. Jimmy the jet will be up and firing and scoring tries again soon under bennett he disliked siebold and jimmy was a very unhappy boy in briz welcome home son..

  11. Yes Seibold must of been a terrible coach at Brisbane, I mean fancy punishing a bloke who does an ankle and then gets photographed that night that drunk he can’t even walk, I mean what a terrible coach. Roberts is a grub and he is now playing at a grub club

  12. I agree back2back19 with Macca & his attack, but his defense is great the bloke makes 40 plus tackles a game, i think the broncs are stronger with him than without him. Maybe just cut his minutes down or shift him lock. Either way they need him in the middle defending. Good headache to have.
