Bulldogs fullback Will Hopoate has declared himself available for Sunday football this season, reversing last yearโ€™s decision to stand down for religious reasons.

The 24-year old has agreed to a request from the club to play on Sundays, ahead of three Sunday games in the next eight weeks and a busy State of Origin schedule.

โ€œWill Hopoate has decided off the back of the request of the Bulldogsโ€™ Board and management to play on Sundayโ€™s for the rest of the year. We think itโ€™s important that Will plays and we will continue to support him with his faith. He is supportive of doing the right thing by his employer,โ€ said Chief Executive Raelene Castle.

Hopoate, confirmed to his teammates this morning that he would be playing in Sundayโ€™s blockbuster against the Sydney Roosters at ANZ Stadium.

โ€œI appreciate everything the club and Raelene has done for me. They allowed me to not play over the course of last year, but they (the club) came to a business decision, and at the end of the day rugby league is a business. I understand that and I totally understand where the club is coming from,โ€ said Hopoate.

The club sees Hopoate as an important part of the side and despite missing six games due to a facial injury earlier in the year, the former New South Wales representative made a stunning return in Round nine with over 300 running metres.

โ€œIโ€™m very grateful that the club sees me as part of their campaign. With fullback being a key position and Des wanting me there, I take that as a compliment,โ€ added Hopoate.
