The Gold Coast Titans have given utility back AJ Brimson permission to explore his options away from the club, despite being contracted through to the end of 2030.

Brimson is one of the Titans longest-serving players, and has been paramount in everything the outfit have done in recent years.

The fullback has been steered away from the number one jumper in recent seasons, though with the rise of first Jayden Campbell, and now Keano Kini.

It left Brimson originally in the halves where he somewhat struggled, before he also spent time in the centres.

This year alone, Brimson has played three games at five-eighth, one game at halfback and the remainder at centre, with none at fullback.

Brimson has made it clear previously that his ideal scenario is playing fullback, although has also suggested he will slot into the Titans as required to stay at the club.

That may now not be the path forward, with News Corp reporting the club has given Brimson permission to explore his options.

Brimson has been constantly linked to the exit at the Titans over the last 12 months, and it's understood a number of Sydney clubs have been monitoring the situation, although couldn't make a move.

The Canterbury Bulldogs were one of those clubs, however, the outfit have since re-signed Connor Tracey as their fullback through to at least the end of 2028.

Other clubs could yet become involved in the race for Brimson's signature who, at his best is one of the game's top fullbacks.

The Titans have plenty of money invested in Brimson, Campbell and Kini, and with Zane Harrison becoming the club's first-choice halfback at the back-end of 2025 prior to his injury, there is at most two spots for the trio without pushing Brimson to the centres.

It has left the former Queensland Maroons and current England representative on the outer of the club, and with salary cap pressures also biting, the idea of him leaving may well suit all parties.

Brimson, who is now 27 years of age, has 154 NRL games under his belt and has plenty left to offer at NRL level.

Despite playing away from his preferred fullback position and in a struggling outfit, Brimson has 3 tries, 6 try assists, 5 forced dropouts, 7 offloads and 92 metres per game this year.
