With the Brisbane Broncos having gone from Premiership-winners to wooden spoon contenders in just one season, a change at the club is all but necessary, whether it be regarding the coach or the roster.

Pundits and fans are split on the idea of Michael Maguire being sacked, with many arguing he deserves more time but others claiming he has lost the playing group.

If Maguire were to stay on, roster changes would be imminent and most believe Ezra Mam would be the first player to be moved on and the South Sydney Rabbitohs are being touted as a potential suitor, but only if a deal with current five-eighth Cody Walker falls through.

Walker has undoubtedly proved age is just a number this season, spurring the Rabbitohs on to be in contention for a spot in the finals.

Also showing his veteran status, Walker has truly turned on the after burners and gone to another level in recent weeks, boasting six direct try involvements in his last three games.

His resurgence has made the decision over his future far more complicated for South Sydney, particularly given the uncertainty surrounding their long-term options in the halves.

As a result of his form, Souths are now reportedly inclined to offer Walker a one-year extension in what would be his twelfth year in the green and red.

However, due to this new development, as confirmed by Paul Crawley on NRL 360, Souths can't speak to any other five-eighths, including Mam, if they want to re-sign the veteran.

With both clubs facing major decisions regarding their rosters, the upcoming weeks could have a significant impact on the futures of both players.
