Former NRL stars Blake Austin, Lachlan Coote and Jackson Hastings have all been named for Great Britain's squad for the upcoming tour of New Zealand and PNG.

The trio qualify for the team under the grandparent rule.

Coote's St Helens Saints just ousted Hastings' Salford on Saturday in the Super League grand final at Old Trafford. It put Coote in an exclusive group of players to have won both NRL and Super League grand finals.

“It was pretty tough actually, with a lot of players in contention,” Great Britain coach Wayne Bennett told Fox Sports.

“A couple of guys got injured and that’s taken a bit of the pressure off and given a couple of other guys opportunities.

“I think we’ve got a pretty good squad which is more than representative of the best players in the game in England and Australia.”

Bennett named St George Illawarra's James Graham as captain of the side.

“No-one plays with more pride and passion than he does for his country, I can tell you,” he said.

Graham added: “It’s very emotional for me."

“It will have a history and tradition and it’s something that resounds with the fans and our sport.

“They will be four incredibly difficult matches but the difficulty rating was always going to be high. It’s a challenge for us, but as a group I think we’re going to grow into that challenge.”

  1. Not sure about that. England has pushed Australia all the way in recent tests. Hastings was always going to be a very good footballer, he just needed to grow up and mature. He will be in huge demand in the Nrl when he decides to return. Many clubs would love a Test halfback who has been voted Super Leagues best player. Brisbane, Warriors, Souths, are just a few who would throw big dollars his way. Hastings future is setup big time what ever he chooses.
