The Rabbitohs have quashed reports that George Burgess will join the Eels in a statement released via the club website.

South Sydney confirmed that the Englishman would be playing for them in the upcoming season.

"The South Sydney Rabbitohs have responded to media speculation regarding George Burgess," the statement reads.

"George Burgess is contracted to the South Sydney Rabbitohs until the end of the 2019 season and will be playing for the South Sydney Rabbitohs throughout the 2019 season.

"Neither George Burgess nor his management have requested a release from the remainder of his contract, and George has indicated that he wants to play for the Rabbitohs in 2019.

"Equally, the Rabbitohs are excited to see what George can produce on field in 2019."

  1. This is excellent news, i reckon George will be in for a big season, plus we finally get to see a player honour his contract to the end.

  2. Seems to me heaps of players want out at souffs. They can’t look after their locals and send them off to England, 😂🤣😁😆🤣 took ages to eventually re-sign Sutton 😂😁😆🤣😁 and now they treat their star imports like last seasons top try scorer at the rabit land Jennings like rabbit poo. 😁🤣😆😂😁Any wonder George Burgess wants out. He is trying to get a gig at a really well run club over at the Sydney Roosters

  3. This is good news for all you Souths blokes. Maybe Bennett can get plenty out of him like he got out of Poore at Saints (and Parra didn’t). Still, contracts don’t mean much these days and I won’t believe he’ll see out the season with the Bunnies until 1 July.
