Ex-NRL star Sonny Bill Williams could be considering a return to rugby league in Australia, after a big offer from his former club the Canterbury Bulldogs.

The 33-year-old currently plies his trade for Auckland in the Super Rugby competition, but according to Wide World of Sports, is in informal talks with the Dogs over a move back home.

Williams is still close with a number of figures at the clubs, and was reportedly set to present the Canterbury players with their jerseys in New Zealand last week, before the Christchurch tragedy left him unable to fulfill the duty.

Williams began his rugby league career with the Dogs in 2004, and was a member of the side up until 2008, before he left the NRL.

He returned in 2013 to lead the Roosters to premiership glory, and has 118 first grade appearances to his name.

The Dogs began their 2019 season in disastrous form, going down to the Warriors 40-6.

  1. It would b great 4 him 2 b back in league but only with the Doggy’s cause the club needs someone like him there at the moment, even body else has turned there back on them . Losing big Klemmers they need sbw to fill them shoes and to be honest he walked out on the club , so it would be a great payback to the Doggy’s fans & club members for him to come back and give them what he’s got He’s a talented footy player if he wasn’t rugby union wouldn’t be paying him the big bucks . He might 33years old but still plays good footy.

  2. MATE if he puts bums on seats an wins on the board I’m sure he’s worth it He can win a game he’s pretty talented player.

Look Brisbane has a bloke who takes all the money and dose nothing every week (Milford) but we still get by. The best thing about SBW is he’s consistent every week that y he gets big money.

  3. Can’t see it happening. Didn’t he promise Uncle Nick that if he ever returned he would play for the Roosters?

  4. Thought the dogs had cap issues and that’s why they let go several players. Crock of sh!te if this is true. Next thing we know the sh0nks will make an offer.

  5. Morris boys Klemmers , Woods there’s some free money and a handful of young blokes in the team now there not origin players like the four they lost so I don’t know maybe they can afford him.

  6. Why would SBW play for the wooden spoon dogs and get smashed every week?
He doesn’t want that at 35 years of age.
The dogs need to rebuild with youth and plan long term, haven’t they learnt anything from dessie.
    SBW as a coach, yes.
