Cronulla Sharks star Valentine Holmes is heading to North Queensland next season, according to a report by NRL reporter Ben Dobbin.

The 22-year old is contracted at Cronulla until the end of the 2019 season, with a team option that would tie him there until 2020.

But since fullback Josh Dugan has dethroned Holmes at his favoured No. 1 position, reports are circling that the Maroons star is looking to switch clubs.

And Dobbin revealed that Holmes, a Townswville native, could be lured home by a massive over from the Cowboys.

"He's from Townsville and I think he'll head home next year, watch this space," he told the NRL Footy Show.

"The offer from the Cowboys is big, the Sharks can't match it."
