The Warriors are interested in signing Panthers hooker Wayde Egan, according to a report by stuff.co.nz.

The 22-year old toured New Zealand's facilities on Friday, as the club seeks out a replacement for Isaac Luke.

Despite re-signing a new two-year deal earlier this season, Egan is on the hunt for a new home after Penrith's addition of Api Koroisau.

The Warriors have long been on the search for a new hooker, with it becoming apparent earlier in the year that Luke would be moved on.

Former NRL great Andrew Johns said he sees traits of Cameron Smith in Egan.

"I hate to say it, but he reminds me of Cameron Smith when he first started," Johns said at the end of last season.

"He hasn't got the bulging muscles but he's very efficient in the way he plays.

"Every time I look at him when he's at dummy-half, he's always watching the tight defenders and markers.

"He's always watching the defence and he lets them make his decision for him."

  1. All the other clubs must see Penrith as an easy touch. Just ask & they’ll release recently re-signed players to go to your club.
They already released Katoa . So they’ll have Koroisau & Kenny only to play hooker next season, if they let Egan go as well. Or use the next Jersey Flegg hooker . If not they’d have to buy another hooker themselves.
I’d be making him play out his new contract if I were them.
The question is, why are the Warriors approaching a player who has 2 years to go on contract? Isn’t that illegal?

  2. EastofDivide, the junior production line will no doubt produce another player which is just as good, if not better, than Wayde.

  3. Maybe Panthers. They haven’t been flush with good running /attacking hookers lately though.
It would just turn from disappointment that Egan goes to anger, if they let the other forwards in Saun Blore & Billy Burns get away as well. Don’t you think?
