The NRL club's head honchos have unanimously agreed to have Peter V'landys become executive chairman and take total control of rugby league in Australia.
Fresh reports from News Corp reveal it took a 30-minute meeting, spearheaded by South Sydney chairman Nick Pappas, where all the leading NRL club chairs agreed on V'landys' new role.
It is understood it will be finalised at a commission meeting on Wednesday, where V'landys will oversee all the NRL and greater rugby league competitions in Australia, taking full power.
V'landys has been praised for the way he contributed to the revival of the NRL following the COVID-19 pandemic during 2020 and 2021, engineering a way to get the game back after unprecedented times.
More recently, V'landys orchestrated a historic TV broadcast deal, exceeding $5 billion, which was finalised in July.
Reports suggest it will be a three-year term following the decisions made by NRL clubs on Saturday morning.
ARLC board member Peter Beattie was full of praise for V'landys for his work in the 13-man code.
“Peter V'landys is the best thing that has ever happened to rugby league,” Beattie told News Corp.
“I am a lifetime supporter, I played the game, but I have never seen an administrator like him.
“Peter is full of innovation, full of great ideas and he is a clear, decisive leader. I have never worked with anyone in politics or any other sphere of my life who has had the energy and vision of Peter.
“If Peter didn't come along when he did, this game would have started a slow demise. The media landscape has changed dramatically and to get the record media deal he did was amazing.”
It comes after long-term NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo stepped down from his role in July after accepting a deal with Tennis Australia.
