Kangaroos forward Josh McGuire would like to see Broncos teammateย Tevita Pangai in the green and gold, doesn't like the thought of him representing NSW.
Pangai may be selected by the Kangaroos in the Tonga tests, who has been committed to the Mate Maโa ever since their 2017 World Cup success.
Pangai reportedly knocked back NSW Origin interest earlier in the season to remain eligible to play for Tonga, but the Brisbane back-rower missed the Pacific Test win over Samoa due to a rib complaint.
McGuire is still hoping to see Pangai join the Australian team, although it may come at the expense of the young Bronco pledging his allegiance to the Blues.
โItโs good for the game he has pledged to Tonga but he wouldnโt look out of place in the green and gold jersey,โ McGuire told Fox Sports.
โIf he plays for NSW, I wouldnโt be a massive fan of that to be honest. But we have a wealth of riches with young forwards at the club and he is one who has taken the year by storm.โ
The Kangaroos are not the only team fighting for Pangai's services, as the off-contract 22-year old recently met with the Knights recently as well as four other rival clubs, who have reportedly put an $800,000 price tag on his head.
The Broncos have recently re-signed a host of other stars which may squeeze out Pangai and prop Matt Lodge, but McGuire was hoping to see the pair recommit to the club.
He praised Lodge for being able to play through duress since returning from his drunken New York scandal in 2015.
โI have never seen a player have so much pressure on him and perform at such a high level for a young fella,โ McGuire said.
โHe is definitely of Origin calibre.
โI am glad he didnโt get chucked in the mix this year because he didnโt need that added pressure but I would be very surprised if I donโt see him there next year.โ
