Scans have confirmed Newcastle Knights cult hero Nathan Ross has suffered a back fracture in the Knights 26-10 win over the Warriors on Saturday.

The 28-year-old copped an accidental knee to his back from Warriors player Blake Ayshford and look to be in immediate distress.

He was forced from the field with the injury and then later taken to a hospital to assess the injury and await scans.

The club has since confirmed that Ross has suffered a fracture to his back. The injury doesn't require surgery.

Nathan Ross suffered a back injury early in the second half of Saturday's win over the New Zealand Warriors at McDonald Jones Stadium.

He was taken to hospital for scans, which confirmed a fracture of the L1 transverse process.

Ross' injury will not require surgery and he is expected to be discharged from hospital on Saturday evening.
