The Newcastle Knights have confirmed during their fan event at McDonald Jones Stadium on Monday that Tyson Frizell will depart the club ahead of 2027.
The forward's future has been up in the air in recent weeks, with the Knights wrestling with their roster and salary cap to find a spot for him.
As it stands, the Knights have just two spots left available for 2027, and were going to try and use one of them on Frizell, but the money available did not enable them to do so.
It had been reported earlier this year by The Newcastle Herald that the Knights were looking to potentially move a player on to retain Frizell, so important had the forward become to the club.
Frizell, who played in the first grand final of his career on Sunday evening with the Knights, will now find a new club to finish his career in 2027 after it was revealed during the club's return to their home ground on Monday that he would be part of the departing class.
Frizell has been heavily linked to the Wests Tigers for the start of 2027, although a deal has not yet materialised.
It could be that the middle forward who spent the large majority of his career on the edge also has other clubs interested given the experience he would bring.
It was revealed not all that long ago that an unnamed third suitor was interested in Frizell, in Sydney.
His form this year was also solid, although the Knights won't be underdone next year, given Cody Hopwood will come into the starting side to partner Jacob Saifiti.
Hopwood was immense during the grand final on Sunday, while Saifiti has missed a number of games suspended to close out the season, but will be available to feature for Fiji during the Rugby League World Cup.
The Knights have other middle forwards in their system too, led by this season's arrival Trey Mooney.
