South Sydney skipper Greg Inglis has been granted leave from the club due to a virus and ongoing shoulder issue, as reported by NRL Media.

The 32-year old is unlikely to play in Saturday's meeting with New Zealand following the ongoing shoulder complaint and illness that has resulted in him being away from the club for the last week.

Rabbitohs teammate Sam Burgess told NRL Media on Tuesday that Inglis simply needed some space.

"He's not been well last week into this week," Burgess said.

"The shoulder has been giving him grief. We've given him the week off. Greg's a busy man and in Sydney you can get a bit consumed.

"He's not been great the last three to four days so we've given him a bit of time."

Burgess added that all the press surrounding Inglis had been unwarranted.

"I just care about Greg and don't care about the hype around it," Burgess said.

"I care about Greg as a person and feel there's pressure put on him externally. He's just getting his body right at the moment.

"I just think everyone step back a little bit and give him some time."

  1. This is not a few days problem. Greg hasn’t seemed himself this last couple of years. I don’t know what is going on with him and it is very sad to see, but just looking at him, his expressions, the way he holds himself, the puffiness in his face, it all says that he is not where he should be.

I think the best thing he can do is to retire and then go somewhere where he can get himself right both physically and mentally. I loved watching this bloke play but sometimes you have just got to know when to quit.

  2. Yeah agree , maybe time to retire, free up funds for other players, but he has earned the right to go out on his terms, hopefully he’ll come back and play awesome, but doubt it.

  3. His head is not right, poor bloke needs to go walk-a-bout back home to the “Queensland’s Boarder” on the NSW mid north coast at Macksville/Bowraville near Nambucca Heads find a good head shrink with a soft leather couch and get his head sorted. Physically he is a wreck and mentally I’m scared for him. A superstar who unfortunately has played a year to many. 😎

  4. Sad to see a great player finish this way. He hasn’t been right since the knee reco, and he’s obviously struggling for fitness and probably mentally shot too. He needs to play every week for match fitnesss, but I can’t see that happening unfortunately.
Good luck for the future GI , when you were at your best you were probably the best back I’ve ever seen. Hopefully this isn’t the last time we see you on the field.

  5. Agree. Obviously all is not well with GI. Good to see Souths giving him some space. It must be tough coming to the realisation that your career is coming to a close at only 32.

  6. I hope so because he will be a major asset for Bennett. Bennett’s defence went out the window after the 2015 grand final loss and Inglis, well , he just can’t tackle. let alone get his fat body into a running motion.😂😂😂😂😂😂💪🐔👍

  7. Shadow you CLOWN 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡Whats happened to your “pride of the West” souffffffths team winning 20 premierships before 1971 and 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 ONE premiership in the last 48 years since. CLOWN🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤣😆😁😆🤣😂🤣😆😁😆🤣😂🤣😆😁😂🤣😆🤣
