Brisbane Broncos recruit Jack Bird has had a tough start to the season and it has only continued to grow worse with news that he is set to be on the sideline for Friday night's clash against the Roosters at Suncorp Stadium.
The big-man recruit has played through pain sustained from a sternum injury for eight weeks and has finally decided to take some time to recover.
Broncos coach Wayne Bennett is preparing to announce the playing squad for this weekend, but Broncos hooker Andrew McCullough says that he and the side are gearing up to play without Bird.
โJackโs sternum has been giving him grief and injuries like that are pretty sore,โ McCullough toldย dailytelegraph.com.au.
โIt takes the pressure off Jack to make sure he gets his sternum right and gets back into it. Iโm not sure how long he is out but it gives someone an opportunity this week.
โThere is still a lot of football this year and if he can have a break over the next few weeks, it will be a blessing for him.โ
โMentally he is fine ... He just wants to do his best for the team and itโs hard to do that when you are carrying a niggling injury."
