Warriors hooker Karl Lawton is expected to require more surgery on his troublesome shoulder.

The 23-year old left Friday night's loss to the Raiders early after injuring the area and was in obvious pain.

Post-match, Lawton admitted he probably came back to the field too soon.

"She was a bit tender throughout, I probably pushed it a bit coming back early and that didn't do it any favours," he told NZ Stuff.

Lawton had come off the same surgery coming into the season, but after working his way into form, became Stephen Kearney's preferred No. 9.

He was hopeful of returning before the end of the season but said he may opt to have the surgery earlier if the Warriors' finals chances were dashed.

"I put the pressure on myself to come back early. I didn't want to let the boys down, I don't know how different it might have been had I sat out an extra week or two to be honest," Lawton said.

"At the end of the year I'll be under the knife again, I think. I'll get some scans in the next few days to confirm but, yeah."

New Zealand now face the prospect of being without Lawton, Issac Luke and Nathaniel Roache for Friday's must-win clash against Manly.
