Titans skipper Ryan James is awaiting scans on Tuesday on a likely ACL tear from his side's won over Newcastle on Sunday.

The 27-year old's right knee collided with Knights hooker Danny Levi's head just 12 minutes into the game as James had to be helped off the field by trainers. James revealed that he suffered the injury before making contact with Levi.

James suffered an ACL tear to his left knee in 2011, and his loss will be a major major blow to Gold Coast.

"Hopefully it's not bad and he's back in a couple of weeks but if not that sucks,” Tyrone Peachey told NRL.com post-match.

"He's been on the cusp of Origin the last couple of years.

"He's been training well, he's been playing well for us and it's going to be a tough loss.

"But we've got a lot of good players in this team and a couple of young blokes that get their chance now so hopefully they can step up and make it their position."

The Titans face the Wests Tigers on Saturday night in Tamworth.
