Star Broncos centre James Roberts has suffered a a lower back injury during his side's loss to Melbourne on Thursday night.

The 26-year old went down in the first five minutes of the contest and Brisbane will now nervously await tests to determine the severity of the problem.

Broncos coach Anthony Seibold revealed that the early prognosis was not good.

"Jimmy is not real flash to be fair," Seibold told reporters.

"He hurt a disk in his back, or he felt an issue with his back on pretty much his first carry.

"We will see how Jimmy pulls up tomorrow morning and get the doctor to assess him.

"He was in a fair bit of pain. He is not lying down.

"He certainly couldn’t have come back on was pretty much the message from the medical staff straight away."

The Brisbane mentor was pleased with the effort shown by his players and expects that consistency every week.

"I am really proud of the effort and that is the benchmark for effort as far as I am concerned," Seibold said.

"The easy thing to do would have been to throw in the towel.

"With only 12 minutes to go we were only four points down after being dominated field-position wise and possession-wise.

"The guys showed a lot of grit and showed a lot of what we are trying to do defensively."

In further injury news, Storm fullback Jahrome Hughes also hurt his lower back in the contest and was assisted up the tunnel by trainers.

  1. Good comment brick top. One shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover but it’s the guys covered in Tats and that have idiotic hair-cuts that commonly are doing all these stupid things. To a degree – you CAN judge a idiot by it’s cover. Sensible people 99.9% look sensible – idiots look like idiots 75% of the time. No coincidence there – it’s a trait.

  2. The curse of fatty vautin got him. Before the match started, Fatty said “I reckon James Roberts will be the one to watch in tonights game….” Then Less than 5mins into the game…. BOOM!…. Roberts is goooonnee! lol.
