Broncos young gun David Fifita is set to extend his time with the club and refuse offers from elsewhere.

According to The Courier Mail, the 19-year old will reportedly turn down a $4 million deal with Parramatta in favour of staying home in Queensland. The Eels along with the Warriors were thought of as frontrunners to sign the young Origin star.

"I've told clubs if you are going to have a crack at Dave, you will have to have a big crack," said Fifita's manager Steve Deacon.

The Broncos are tight on salary cap space after re-signing Tevita Pangai Jr and Matt Lodge and with $800,000-a-year captain Darius Boyd on the books and still need to address other areas.

Daily Telegraph journalist Paul Kent and Fox League chief reporter James Hooper agree that the club have run a risk by waiting to tie up Fifita with other NRL clubs free to negotiate with him from November 1.

"The issue then from a roster management point of view, is why they left this bloke to last off the rank and spent money on other guys," said Kent on NRL360 on Fox League

"Peter Mullholland has been a talent scout for 25 years, head coach before that, and says David Fifita is the best junior footballer he has ever seen."

Notably the Broncos have re-signed Payne Haas and Matt Lodge recently, meaning Fifita wasn't addressed until later.

"With Lodge and Pangai, they were off contract for the next year so this was the final year of their contracts with the Broncos, whereas Fifita he's still signed for next year," said Hooper.

  1. While this is good news, it is a double edged sword. Unless the Broncos can convince him to take a 1-year deal for the second season in a row, Corey Oates will be joining the Cowboys.
