The St George Illawarra Dragons have locked away another promising young forward, with Jacob Webster agreeing to a two-year contract extension with the club.
Zero Tackle can reveal Webster has put pen to paper on the new deal, securing his future with the Red V until 2028 after making his NRL debut only three weeks ago.
The 23-year-old made his first-grade debut in Round 23 against the Cronulla Sharks, coming off the bench for 33 minutes in the Dragons' astonishing victory. He immediately impressed, making 30 tackles and breaking one tackle in a strong introduction to the NRL.
Webster has featured off the interchange bench in every game since his debut and is set to wear jersey 17 again on Friday night when the Dragons take on the Manly Sea Eagles.
His emergence at NRL level has now been rewarded with a two-year extension, adding another young forward to the Dragons' growing list of retained talent.
The deal continues what has been an impressive period of recruitment and retention for the Red V, who have arguably been the most active and effective club in the NRL market over the past couple of months.
Webster's pathway to the NRL began with the Kempsey Dragons before he relocated to Wollongong as a teenager to join the Steelers' junior system.
After progressing through the grades, he made the step into Jersey Flegg in 2022, while also earning NSW Under 19s honours and his first taste of NSW Cup football.
He continued to develop across the next two seasons before becoming a regular in the Dragons' NSW Cup middle rotation, eventually earning a starting spot in the side's 2025 Grand Final.
Now, after making the jump into the NRL and impressing in his first handful of appearances, Webster has secured his future in the Red V as the Dragons continue to build a young forward pack for the years ahead.
