St George Illawarra Dragons director of rugby league pathways Ian Millward has provided fans with an update on the current contract status of rookie forward Luciano Leilua.

Millward says that the negotiations have been held up by the fact that Leilua is considering signing with a new agent. Millward has confirmed though that the club is in constant contact talks with him about his future with the club.

"It’s a little bit complicated with Luciano at the moment and it’s not your normal one," Millward said.

"He’s at a stage at the moment where he has a current agent and he is not sure when the agency agreement expires that he is going to stay with them. So he is holding back until he decides on that first.

"We’re in constant talks with him and his agent and if he does move to another agent we feel we will also be in a good position with what we want to offer him.

"We have already shown Luc that he is a first grader here and we want him to be a first grader here. His family have indicated that they have been happy with his development as a Dragon and more importantly, we feel we won’t be beaten when it comes to the financial part of it too.

“We want to keep him and whatever anyone is reading is only rumours at the moment. Yes, there are other clubs interested but we’re doing everything in our endeavour to keep him.”

When asked about the rumours surrounding Kieran Foran linking up with the Dragons in 2017, Millward was very clear.

"Kieran won't be a Dragon in 2017."
