The Bulldogs have been forced to issue a statement addressing the future of five-eighth Josh Reynolds after continued speculation.

Off-contract at the end of the season, speculation has been rife that Reynolds is seeking a new deal worth $800K a season and that the Bulldogs are willing to let him walk.

Added to these rumours were additional reports that the St George Illawarra Dragons and Parramatta Eels were both interested in the former State of Origin half.

The Bulldogs statement claims the speculation is inaccurate and that the club is continuing contract negotiations with Reynolds and his management.

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs can confirm that online speculation today surrounding Josh Reynolds contract situation is inaccurate.

“He is a valued member of the club and we are in continued negotiations with Josh and his management,” stated Bulldogs Chief Executive Raelene Castle this afternoon.

The Bulldogs this afternoon landed in Dunedin ahead of their Round Three clash with the New Zealand Warriors.

The team was greeted at the airport with a traditional Dunedin welcome and told how much the local rugby league community was looking forward to supporting them on Friday night.

    • Yeah we’re stuck with Green for another 2 years. Hopefully Hastings or Cullen get a shot. Greens been a huge let down.

      • Mate what about DCE , I know I’ve banged on but now more than ever it’s looking more disastrous, I can’t think of a bigger flop in league history, it’s almost criminal

      • Green is not your problem he is more than capable with a good 7 . The issue at the moment is the go forward no half combination can work with that.

        • 74liatrevlis, as you are clearly a Manly supporter I can understand you hate Parra, but surely no one can have that much hate that they would wish Reynolds on anyone.

Parra, please don’t sign him, please don’t sign him, please don’t sign him.

As for Green, wow, what a turnaround. We’re 2 games into the season and some Manly supporters appear to be sharpening the knives already. Welcome to the Manly RL club, “we’ve got you’re back”.

        • Why are the forwards constantly being the excuse for our 7 ? , was Parra going forward in rd1 , no Manly was mowing them down ,who changed things for Parra ? What position does he play ?

      • eels47 that would amount to treason ,,, I’ve sent the hounds to arrest you , I summons you to my castle

        • Come on now, your disguise was not very good. Plus you have already mentioned DCE and the commas, oh the commas….

I will be looking out for these hounds though, I have tightened the screws on my door hinges in case one of them happens to be Des

  1. Hunt and reynolds would be interesting. Widdop to fullback, dugan in the centers and field of the bench?

    • A Reynolds at Saints would give them
Aggression, and go forward, the blokes got tonnes of energy

    • bigredv, sounds like a plan but I would suggest playing Josh Reynolds at his natural position (hooker) and then play either Jai Field or Shaun Nona at 5/8. Widdop started off at the Storm as a FB and centre but has not been given a chance there at the Dragons. It is clear he does not belong in the halves and only looked half decent there playing in a spine with Slater, Cronk and Smith. The same thing is happening to Green at Manly this year. The clock just struck midnight Cinderella and your carriage just turned into a pumpkin!

    • Has he played there before? or in his junior days? why all this talk of him going to hooker? are you hoping for a peter wallace type change of fortunes?

      • Personally think he can have more impact from hooker, with his running game, and won’t have to organise anything. Also he likes to tackle. Just my opinion of course

      • Yeah he did in his junior days and he did play there in first grade for a bit and he was great. The way he plays is exactly like a dummy half. He should only stay at 5/8 if his halfback can control games, which
Mbye can’t do yet because he’s still young and his kicking game needs more work. If Mbye fixes his kicking game up, which I think he will, Reynolds will be fine alongside him at 5/8 otherwise move Mbye to 5/8 to play an Anthony Milford type of role, Josh Cleeland to halfback and Reynolds to hooker.

  2. I think the halves merry go round will something like this-

Foran to Broncos or back to manly with des
    Brooks to dogs
    Reynolds to dragons or manly
    Bird to Knights

Something like that but I could be way off.

    • Dragons wont pay 800 for him, they shouod have heaps to spend with the cap going up and virtually everyone off contract. I would imagine they could resign dugan, widdop and go after someone else. I wonder if they are still interested in bird?

      • Dragons should let go Lafai, Nightingale and Packer for a start (drop them immediately for this season) and should chase Bird not Reynolds. Widdop will never play fullback, if it’s not Dugan it’s going to be Dufty

  3. josh reynolds isnt worth any where near the $ 800,000 thousand a year he & his stupid manager is asking remember there is a salary cap in place for all clubs & for des hasler looks like all the players are asking the board of directors 2 hurry up & sign him 2 his new 2 year deal they all want him here so sorry manly & st george seems like he desi isnt going anywhere soon

  4. I doubt Reynolds himself demanded 800k. He would play for the Dogs for absolute peanuts if he could that’s how much the Dogs means to him. Maybe it’s his manager whose behind that stuff saying he wants 800k. Keep him at 400k and maybe move him to dummy half and pay him more if he gets into top form there or keep him at 5/8 and do the latter if he picks up anyway.

  5. I doubt Reynolds is a player Saints need. The Reynolds of 2016 and so far this year isn’t worth anything like $800K. If he did go to Saints it wouldn’t be the first time he would have played for St George – his junior club was St George Dragons (named after the pub at the corner of Canterbury Rd and Kingsgrove Rd in Belmore, also the junior club of other CB luminaries like George Peponis) who played in Easts jerseys.
