The Canterbury Bulldogs have refuted reports that they attempted to retire playmaker Kieran Foran on medical grounds.

Club CEO Andrew Hill said the club was not looking to trade the 27-year old and that there was no truth behind the rumours.

“We’ve had no conversation with Kieran, we’ve had no conversations internally, we certainly haven’t had a conversation with the NRL about it,” Hill told AAP.

The Bulldogs' 2019 campaign is in peril after the club took on too many back-ended contracts, clogging up their salary. It has given them little to no flexibility, and forced them to move on some of their key pieces, most notably Moses Mbye.

And Foran was speculated to be another casualty of their clean out, who has struggled to live up to the lucrative three-year deal he signed with the club due to persistent shoulder, hamstring and back injuries.

Foran will not play in this Saturday's clash with the Gold Coast at Belmore, but Hill expects to see him back in action soon.

“He’s currently out, he’s got his toe and his wrist, we’re hoping he’ll be back for our next game,” Hill said.

“I don’t know where it’s come from.”

It will be Mbye's last appearance for Canterbury, who will be sent over to the Tigers in a mid-season transfer, while Aaron Woods may also don the blue and white for the last time, with Cronulla heavily pursuing him.
