Newcastle Knights supporters will perhaps notice a sense of deja vu as they digest the news that Korbin Sims might be joining Brisbane imminently.

According to a Sunday Telegraph report, Sims has been tempted by an offer from the Broncos, and Knights coach Nathan Brown appears prepared to release the 25-year-old from his 2017 contract.

If Korbin is allowed to emulate his sibling, Newcastle will have the bulk of his salary (reportedly close to $400,000) to spend on a replacement. But whether they can secure a player of his calibre at this late juncture remains to be seen.

Releasing Sims might suit him and the Broncos coach Wayne Bennett. But fans are entitled to wonder how it can possibly improve the Knights’ hopes of winning games and avoiding a third straight wooden spoon.
