Holmes set to walk away from NRL to pursue NFL dream

NRL star Valentine Holmes is set to turn his back on the NRL, and head over to the United States to follow in the footsteps of Jarryd Hayne.

Holmes is set to pursue a career in the NFL, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The Telegraph believe Holmes toured a major NFL franchise during his recent visit to Nike's US offices.

Holmes is under contract for the 2019 season, although the Telegraph understand he wants to break the contract and head over to the States immediately.

Holmes has dealt with the NFL before, trialing in front of NFL agents in 2016 alongside Jason Taumalolo.

The 23-year-old is expected to meet with Cronulla bosses later this week to speak about his future.
