Former NRL star Jarryd Hayne has been hit with a second charge relating to an alleged incident in Newcastle in September 2018.

Hayne attended Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday morning, and has been served with an additional charge of aggravated sexual assault, according to 7News.

Police have alleged Hayne had sex with a woman without her consent in September last year, and during the incident inflicted actual bodily harm on the woman in question.

Hayne intends to plead not guilty. An aggravated rape charge currently carries a maximum jail sentence of 20 years.
