Broncos coach Wayne Bennett and Storm legend Craig Bellamy sat side by side at a function on Friday, and spoke about what the future holds for the pair of them.

With Bellamy recently linked to the Brisbane job as early as 2019, the future of both coach's contracts were hot topics.

Bennett is currently contracted by the Broncos until the end of the 2019 season, while Bellamy's deal at Melbourne runs out at the end of the current season.

Bellamy spoke about his future first, and said regardless of his Storm future, he would not be taking Bennett's job away from him.

“If I am not coaching Melbourne next year, I will not be coaching the Broncos,’’ Bellamy told interviewer John McCoy at the Toowoomba Turf Club.

“Wayne has a contract and I have to decide what I will do next year.’’

The pair snuck through a side entrance to avoid the media as they arrived for the function, and then spent almost an hour on stage.

Bellamy was quizzed once again about his future after initially refuting suggestions he could coach the Broncos next season, and once again stood his ground.

“No (I won't be coaching Brisbane next season) Wayne is going to coach there," Bellamy added.

"He has a contract for 2019 so there you go.’’

Bellamy is in an unusual position, given Melbourne's unlikely nature to re-sign him for 12 months before he heads to Brisbane, if the Broncos are in his future.

Recently Bellamy told the media he wouldn't be opposed to the idea of sitting out for 12 months before taking over at the Broncos in 2020, although he had a different tune on Friday.

“I spoke to Wayne about this earlier. If you sit out of the game for 12 months the game changes very quickly. It evolves very quickly. If you do that you might lose touch with what is going on in the game so it is probably not the ideal situation,’’ Bellamy said.

Bennett also shut down rumours the pair could coach together next season, suggesting Bellamy is a "top coach", and it wouldn't work like it does with young coaches.
