When you're being paid to play rugby league, you're always under pressure. Whether that be on the training field, the game itself or in the pub, eyes are on you at all times.
In 2023, we have some huge name recruits switching clubs. We have an entirely new club making its NRL debut. We also have an extended, and bye-ridden draw.
Some players, though, will enter 2023 under immediate pressure. Whether that be due to a big money move, a change in position or a club's entire season on their shoulders, a series of players will walk into 2023 under the gun at kick-off.
Below are ten such players. The reasons vary, but the one thing every player below has in common is that they'll probably lose some sleep as the 2023 season approaches.
2. Anthony Milford
The Dolphins will be expected to do more than just turn up and make up the numbers in 2023. A huge part of that will fall on the shoulders of Anthony Milford.
A big name and a huge name in the city, he returns after an ordinary 2023 in Newcastle. He's played well in the World Cup, but his halves partner for the NRL's newest side won't be at the level of his Samoan counterpart.
Milford is the most experienced member of the spine and will be asked to step up to be the main man. Sean O'Sullivan is a real talent, but he's only played 32 NRL games.
The NRL will be hoping the Dolphins start well. If Milford doesn't fire, I can't see how that happens. His 2023 season is going to have to be a near-career best for the sake of the fledgling club.
