Brisbane director Darren Lockyer says the club would welcome Ash Taylor back into the fold if he was released by the Gold Coast Titans.

The 24-year old endured a tough season at the Titans both on and off the field, taking a leave of absence to address personal issues.

He sat out most of the second half of the season, featuring in the reserve grade and one senior appearance in round 20.

The Titans are hopeful that the halfback can return to his best next year, but he has been linked to a move away despite have two years to run on his contract worth $1 million per season.

Lockyer says the Broncos could accommodate for him on a smaller deal.

“Ash has come through our system, he went to the Titans and he’s on good money there,” Lockyer told Channel 9’s 100% Footy.

“If Ash wanted to come back to the Broncos and the Titans gave that blessing then we would welcome him back to the club, but on a really small deal.

“It’d be like an opportunity to come back and if you want to work hard and fight for the position, and if you can play good enough footy and earn your spot, then well done.

“But it’s not like we’re out there systematically trying to recruit Ash Taylor.”

Melbourne's Brodie Croft is likely heading to the Broncos, getting spotted having a coffee with coach Anthony Seibold last week.

Lockyer said Croft would be an ideal pick up for the club that would help their playmaking void.

“Brodie ticks a lot of boxes in terms of being able to give direction in a game,” Lockyer said.

“He’s got a kicking game, he’s a solid defender and that’s what we’re lacking in that playmaker’s (position).

“We’ve got a couple of young kids in Tom Dearden and Cory Paix. Cory Paix can play hooker as well.

“The other one in this is Milford. He went back to fullback this year but I just don’t know whether he’s capable of playing at that elite level at fullback. He might come back into the equation of playing in the halves again.

“If Brodie Croft comes, there’s probably three or four options in that six and seven.

“We’ve got to identify the spine and stick with them so we get some stability and consistency."

  1. I know of a transit lounge club that really needs this reject dud, a club that prides itself on being the “Pride of Importing Dud League”.

We all know who that is. Their current 5/8 was sacked halfway through an Origin and recently cost his dud team a grand final birth.

  2. Hey Muppet how do you think you would’ve gone mentally knowing majority of the rebuild of a club was to fall upon your shoulders. Not everyone has broad shoulders like Arrow, and it’s alot easier dealing with pressure as a forward than it is being the main playmaker. He is still an amazing footballer just needs to work on his mental toughness.
