A shockwave went through the Shire this week on the back of reports that Teig Wilton would be testing the market come November 1st.
Wilton is one of few players the entire Sharks' collective fan base can agree upon is a must to retain in the Shire.
Later in the week I'll run down why the Sharks can't afford to lose the left sided backrower.
Today though we're going to look at six potential landing spots should be decide his future lays elsewhere and he does decide to leave the Sharks.
4. PNG Chiefs
The Chiefs are the reason a heap of rep quality players are willing to test the market. The tax free money on offer is causing other clubs to up their offers.
PNG have signed a star studded backline but are yet to land a marquee signing for their forward pack.
Teig Wilton would be that marquee signing. It also wouldn't break the bank either, like say a Hudson Young type signing.
Most importantly of all, Wilton, at 28 by the time he arrived in PNG, would bring the average age of the squad down considerably.
The Chiefs have targeted players on the back end of their career. Wilton is about to hit his peak years, making him an ideal signing for the competition's new boys.
PNG have obviously tried to peak interest by signing marquee players but their long-term success will live or die on the back of players of Wilton's class.
I have no idea as to whether Wilton has any intention of leaving the Shire, let alone the country, but money talks.
