The NRL revealed on on Wednesday that ANZ Stadium will be out of action after next years State of Origin and will hand the rights to the 2020 Grand Final to the SCG.

The move will leave the Bulldogs and Rabbitohs without a home ground in the second half of the season as well as for all major NRL events. It's expected that Bankwest Stadium in Paramatta.

Construction will put ANZ Stadium out until the 2023 season and have a capacity of up to 75,000.

Following the 2020 Grand Final, nothing is locked in but the New South Whales Government is focusing on locking in the next two Grand Finals after that.

"We always knew there would be some challenges for our clubs and for the game with major works being done to the stadium network in Sydney," NRL CEO Todd Greenberg told NRL.com. 

"Bankwest Stadium has been a wonderful addition to the sport this season and while we know there will be certain challenges over the next few years we also need to consider the fantastic result for the game when Allianz Stadium and ANZ Stadium are completed.

"We are not losing sight of the fact that over a four-year period we will have three purpose-built rectangular venues opening in Sydney. This remains a great result for the game," he said.

  1. You’ve got to be kidding Suncorp has an extra 4500 seats and is rectangular, ovals are terrible for league spectators it’s not nswrl it’s the NRL time to move on.
