Tevita Pangai Jr is set to follow Corey Oates in re-signing with the Brisbane Broncos, according to The Courier Mail.

Pangai Jr will turn down offers from fellow NRL clubs to re-sign with the Red Hill club on a one-year deal.

Because of salary-cap pressures, the two parties have agreed on a 12-month extension, meaning Pangai Jr could leave the club along with Wayne Bennett.

The 22-year-old is believed to have a close relationship with Bennett and could link up with his mentor at another club should Bennett find a new home in 2020.

Before inking the new deal with the Broncos, the Pangai Jr will make his starting debut for Tonga in their inaugural clash with Australia.

Tongan teammate Jason Taumalolo tipped Pangai Jr to "destroy" the Kangaroos defence.

“Tevita is young at heart but come game day he will be a big part of the reason why we will go alright,” Taumalolo told The Courier Mail.

“Everyone [in the Tongan set-up] holds Tevita in high regard with how he carries himself.

“We’re hoping he will turn up and destroy the defence and hopefully he does that.

The historic clash will be held in Auckland on Saturday October 20.
