Wests Tigers are eager to nail down the signature of star halfback Luke Brooks under new coach Michael Maguire, with a deal set to be inked which will keep Brooks at the Tigers until 2023.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Brooks and Maguire will soon meet in person to finalise a long-term deal believed to be worth significantly more than Brooks' current salary of $550,000 per season.

Brooks is contracted to Wests until the end of next season, but obtaining his signature now is crucial if the Tigers want to fend off poaching attempts from other clubs.

It is heavily rumoured that the Roosters have identified Brooks as a potential replacement for Copper Cronk, who will hang up his boots at the end of 2019.

Maguire told Sydney Radio last week that Brooks will be an important feature of the Tigers' future.

“I spoke to Luke and I’m really looking forward to working with him,” Maguire said.

“I really like his style of playing. He’s born and bred in that jersey.

“If we build what we want to build there, he’s going to play a big part in that.

“He has put a lot of time into that jersey and it would be nice to see him get some high reward now off the back of that.

“(Wests Tigers are) in a position to move forward and it’s about picking the right players who add to the quality that we’ve already got.”

Brooks was the Dally M Halfback of the Year in 2018.
