Off-contract Broncos hooker Jake Turpin is gaining the interest of several rival clubs, according to a report by Nine.

The Bulldogs are the front runners with money to spend and the belief that the young hooker and make-shift half-back could be the answer to their current void. They aren't the only ones, with as many as six clubs believed to be interested in bringing the Broncos rookie south of the border.

Reports yesterday suggested Turpin was close to re-signing with the Broncos but with veteran Andrew McCullough set to activate an option in his contract to stay with Brisbane they may not be able to entice the young gun with an offer that is competitive with NSW clubs.

The West Tigers are another team looking for a new hooker but both the Tigers and Bulldogs may have to wait another year to get Turpin's services depending on whether he wishes to fight McCullough for the role in the team or look to other avenues.

The struggling Broncos are 5-8 and face the Knights this week in a swing match in Newcastle.

  1. He should stay and just wait it out and challenge McCullogh. In Brisbane he’s obviously settled and around him he would have a young team on the up. Darius doesn’t have long but he’s more of s problem then a big loss, Gillet would be the only other really old head in the team and he’s just a consistent work horse. Around him he would have lots of hungry talented young players all on the up. Whereas the Bulldogs team looks all over the place. Coach is on the outer, team keeps signing second rowers or wingers. They have a weird mix of vets and youngsters, none of which are standing out. And if you play really well each week like Ogden and Meany you often will still get dropped.

  2. I find it strange that all these clubs are looking at or scooping up all these Broncos players, considering that the Broncos have played like arse all season. Nikorima, the jet, Matty lodge, jayden Sa’u now Turpin. You think with all these talented players on high demand from other clubs that the Broncos are flying high this season.
