Canberra have honoured Craig Garvey's release request, allowing the 25-year-old to return home to Sydney.

According to smh.com.au, Garvey's partner is pregnant, and the pair have moved to Sydney to be closer to family.

The hooker failed to record a first grade appearance for the Raiders this season, after 23 matches for St George Illawarra and Canterbury over the past five years.

Garvey was down in the pecking order in the nation's capital, with Siliva Havili taking over in the No. 9 jersey during Josh Hodgson's injury absence earlier this season.

Garvey impressed for the Mounties in the NSW Cup, before packing up and heading back to Sydney over the past fortnight.
