North Queensland forward Josh McGuire could find himself in trouble with the NRL after an apparent eye gouge on Melbourne Storm star Cameron Munster.

Midway through the first half, Munster was tackled near the Cowboys' line, and got up to play the ball before McGuire's hand appeared to make a move towards the five-eighth's eye.

Soon after, the Storm forced a goal line dropout, with Munster speaking to referee Grant Atkins about the incident.

Munster then decided to drop the report, before speaking to Channel 9 about the incident after the game.

“I won’t go there,” he told Channel 9.

“Me and Moose have a connection there.

“He did get me but I wasn’t going to put it on report.”

Fox League expert Luke Lewis addressed the incident during the telecast, and believes McGuire will likely spend some time on the sidelines following the incident.

“At first I didn’t think too much of it, he might’ve just got up and got a poke in the eye,” Lewis said.

“Having a second look at it, he’s definitely got his finger in the eye there and I think we’re going to hear a little bit more of this during the week. It doesn’t look too good.”

  1. This guy is one if the biggest grubs in the game. Hair pulling, eye gouging, next he will be copying the hopoate finger in the backside trick. Hes too old to compete fairly so resorts to these acts. Send him away for 6 weeks

  2. Agree. A real grub who takes cheap shots when players are defenceless and thinks he’s tough. 4 to 6 weeks and a final warning.

  3. What happened to that neck chop ?

Not as bad as this gouge I will agree but the cowbies were targeting munster all night. This one should be looked at as well.

  4. All 3 “hits” on Munster have attracted the attention of the match review committee. So McGuire for contrary conduct and Nene Macdonald and Kurt Baptiste both dangerous contact.

  5. Full credit to munster for not going on with it. If the grub McGuire had of done that to me I would have put one on his jaw, pure & simple.
