Brisbane's Matt Lodge says he would happily lead the club as skipper in 2020.

The Broncos are currently reviewing their list and leadership group following a horror loss to Parramatta in the opening week of the finals.

It has been reported that Darius Boyd is set to be stripped of the captaincy and the five-man leadership group will be overhauled, but with the opportunity to re-apply.

It also emerged that the Broncos would seriously consider installing Lodge as captain, despite his recent New York rampage.

If given the opportunity, Lodge has declared that he would embrace the responsibility.

“I just love the club and the boys that play for it,” Lodge told Channel 7.

“Whatever they want to happen, I’m happy for it to happen.

“I don’t put my name forward, I’m just happy to do what I get told whether it’s playing or leading, whatever it is.

“I’m just happy to be part of the Broncos.”

The prospect of Lodge becoming skipper has been highly criticised amongst NRL circles, with several former greats whacking the decision.

According to Channel 7, coach Anthony Seibold is likely to select the club’s new-look leadership group at the end of pre-season.

Former centre Justin Hodges endorsed Lodge's leadership qualities.

“The captain of the Broncos takes a special person and when you see those little characteristics that he’s been showing over the last couple of years, he’s in the running to be captain of our club,” Hodges told Channel 7.

“That guy will stand up, and at the moment I think Lodgey’s doing that.”

  1. I get what you’re saying Panthers18 but like everyone he deserves a second chance. Look at Packer what he’s done with his second chance. In saying that though and if he gets one JDB can have is second chance elsewhere and not at the Dragons.
    Cheers

  2. Too soon. If Lodge keeps his nose clean for another 12mnths, then maybe they should consider it. As for JDB, if he is found guilty, then that will effectively be the end oh his NRL career no question. Prison footy only from there. With what he is looking at being charged with rates a near 2nd behind murder in my books.

  3. I guess all people should deserve a second chance. Yet , he still paid no real price for what he did? Other than a monetary one.
The question is, does the person stop being that same person who committed the act in the first place? Should that same person be a captain or any type of a leader? It’s certainly not a good look, no matter what he does now.
