JAC Motors Australia has officially severed ties with Parramatta Eels winger Josh Addo-Carr after an alleged positive drug reading at a roadside test last week.
Initially revealed by CODE Sports, Addo-Carr allegedly returned a positive test for cocaine in Newtown on Friday.
Addo-Carr had an ongoing sponsorship deal with the Aussie car company, in which the business was quick to go public with a decision to stop their partnership with the Eels winger despite the situation still ongoing.
“JAC Motors wishes to announce the immediate termination of our sponsorship with Josh Addo-Carr,” the company said in an Instagram story on Sunday.
“The allegations and reported behaviour do not reflect our values and standards.
“We believe in safety and integrity in all our products and all our dealings, and we are disappointed with this news.”
CODE has since reported that Addo-Carr is on leave and that a secondary fluid sample to confirm a reading is yet to be analysed, meaning an official call from the club will be delayed for some weeks.
The Eels released a statement on Saturday acknowledging the alleged incident occurring.
"The Parramatta Eels are aware of an alleged incident involving Josh Addo-Carr," a Parramatta statement read.
"The Club has notified the NRL Integrity Unit and is cooperating with the appropriate processes, as well as providing welfare support to Josh and his family.
"The Parramatta Eels will not be commenting further until the matter has been finalised."
Meanwhile, a NSW Police statement was provided to foxsports.com.au, bringing more context to the developing story.
“About 11.10 pm on Friday (11 September 2026), officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command were patrolling Enmore Road, Newtown, when they stopped the driver of a vehicle for random testing,” the statement read.
“The driver - a 31-year-old man - was subjected to a roadside breath test which returned a negative result.
“The driver underwent a preliminary drug wipe, which allegedly returned a positive indication for cocaine.
“An oral fluid sample was obtained and sent for further analysis.
“The investigation is ongoing, as police await the results of the forensic analysis.”
The Bulldogs, Addo-Carr's previous club, stood him down after testing positive for cocaine in 2024.
Addo-Carr remained defiant about zero use of illicit substances, but two positive readings were enough for the Bulldogs to tear up his contract in late October that year.
The experienced NRL winger was in quality form during 2026 and was in line for a World Cup call-up.
The premiership-winning winger played three matches for Australia in the Ashes tour in 2025, but serious doubt has crept into his selection chances since the alleged incident.
With Addo-Carr on leave, the club is very unlikely to proceed with an action until confirmation tests are known.
