Injury update on Tom Trbojevic

Manly Sea Eagles have received some positive news on the injuries suffered to fullback Tom Trbojevic against Brisbane on Saturday night.

Results of scans taken this morning reveal that Trbojevic has a syndesmosis injury to his left ankle, which is not to the extent as originally thought.

He also has an MCL (medial collateral ligament) sprain to his left knee.

Trbojevic will be out for six to eight weeks.

“We feel extremely lucky given the nature of the mid-air tackle as it had the potential to be a lot worse,’’ said Manly Coach Trent Barrett.

“To lose Tom for up to eight weeks is very disappointing. However, we aim to continue to play well and improve our position on the table.

“Tom will now begin his rehabilitation program with the Manly medical staff.”

  1. Yay.
Still a long time out but it could be worse.
A bit of a shuffle now. I suppose one of the Wrights will come in.
What’s the situation with Jonnie Walker or Tom Wright?. Are they an option yet?

    • Matty Wright has been 18th man for a while but it wouldnt surprise me if Hastings gets a crack for the first week…

  2. Lucky it wasn’t a season ender. Good time to get it though, not from a tom point of view but from a manly one where we have 2 byes and a game during origin against penrith, so it’s really only 3 games we will badly miss him. Hastings to fullback not as good as Tom but he kicks goals and has some good ball playing and general play kicking ability. You’d think nsw will replace with Walker and push Dugan or Hayne to wing. TBH I’d pick Hayne at fullback over Tedesco, he’s not focused on his footy at the moment. Here’s my revised team for origin.

    1 Hayne
2 Uate (would have been Tom but I don’t see anyone else standing out, Aku has been great, he will start the sets good. This spot could easily be Addo Carrs but he isn’t big enough yet, same with Don and Tupou)
    3 Walker
    4 Dugan
    5 Ferguson
    6 Maloney
    7 Pearce
    8 Fifita
    9 McInnes
    10 Vaughan
    11 Cordner
    12 Graham
    13 Trbojevic

    14 Bird
    15 De Belin
    16 Paulo
    17 Frizell

Blues won’t pick this team as I expect daley to put some out of form players in like Tedesco, Tamou, Moylan, Morris, Farah and Gallen (play great footy but he retired needs to move on).

    • Great news bout tom. Would also think Hastings to fullback, certainly not same impact but just needs to e solid, and maybe we can alscire some 6 point tries then with his kicking. I might be biased but I think taufau could be looked at for nsw. I know he won’t be Christ he been brilliant is year with his running game, it’s back to his best now he not injured… still think we definitely have a top 8 team and can be the dark horse of the comp once tom back

      • Yeah injury came at good time, Hastings at fullback also gives us an extra 6 or 8 points each match. Taufua should definitely be considered he was in the frame in 2014 but since then injuries got him. Either Uate or Taufua would fit the bill well.

      • And we will still finish top 8. We were looking at 5 or 6 on the ladder but 7 or 8 will do. I see titans back in the 8 soon which will push us to 8, raiders may go on a run so we are looking or 7 or 8. No one else is a threat outside the 8 atm other than titans.

    • Uate wont get picked for origin or Ferguson although he has shown some form the last 3 weeks… we need some size to match Oats, plus Anthony Don or Hoppa (full back) would be a great fit.

      • Fergo yes, Uate no. I don’t like Fergo, but he is playing well and is an incumbent. Uate, as well as he might be playing, is a step backwards. If there is going to be someone in the back 5 besides Teddy, Hayne, Dugan, Fergo and Walker, it should be either Bird (he is better served off the bench though), or Nathan Ross.

  3. My back 5 is

    Tedesco
    Radradra
    Dugan
    Bird
    Ferguson

Big, fast and hard to control in attack. Solid in defence. No brains between em
