  1. Michael Jennings is gonna resign as well for two years apparently and Ryan Matterson is most likely gonna join as well. I wonder if eels will resign Josh Hoffman and Greg Leleisiuao. Also eels really need to strengthen their hooker department. Mahoney is good but if he gets injured we have no one.

  2. If Parramatta have signed those 5 then I doubt if they will keep Jennings, can’t see them going for Mitchell or Matterson now by spending around 700-800k on those five above.

  3. I think EelsFTW is right, in that we’ll re-sign Jennings for 2 years and that we’ll pick up Matterson.
If that proves to be the case we’ll still have 3 spots left, and whilst we won’t have the cap space to go after a big name we’ll be able to fill those spots without letting anyone go, and we might even have enough to sign another mid cap player.
All that said, if we do in fact pick up Matterson we will be opting out of the Frizell race (if there is indeed one), and that hurts.
Parra has finally got its cap management together, and I hope we continue to keep it together, so I don’t want to be anywhere near the Latrell race. Those (reported) numbers, and those terms don’t make any sense to me at all.
P.S well done Gower. I’m happy for him and the club to hear he’s going around for another year.

  4. Yeah, I expect we will see the Jennings announcement for a further 2 years very soon, as well as an extension for Dylan Brown. All reports suggest Matterson too.

Another hooker must be a priority too as support for Mahoney. We can’t be relying on Salmon to be that player. And we are still light on up front, so another prop would be good too. That leaves 1 spot left almighty.

  5. Agreed, especially on a back up hooker. I actually thought Smith would have been the go to hooker if we didn’t/don’t bring in another 1, but either way, let’s get/promote a genuine back up hooker.
I think we’ll be bringing a couple of young forwards into the squad, because I don’t think we’ll have a lot of cap. but that’s O.K, as at least we’ll have some depth.
I suspect we’ll play Matterson at lock, if we do pick him up, and move Brown to the front row.

  6. I would let Matterson replace Manu Ma’u and leave N Brown at lock. N Brown’s passing ability for a lock is exceptional, and doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. So if eels move him out of lock, you will see eels wide spreading attack be less potent. Although Matterson is a former half and should be able to play the same role as Brown, he played better this season when at 2nd row
