Brisbane Broncos dummy-half Cory Paix is set for season-ending surgery on his injured shoulder.
Last week, the premiership winner was ruled out of the Dolphins clash.
New reports from AAP revealed that Paix has been playing through a shoulder injury for almost two months and will opt to have surgery, which will conclude his season.
Initially, he had planned to have surgery in the off-season, as the club hoped to make the finals.
Now that the Broncos won't make the finals and are 16th on the ladder, the club has made a call for Paix to be healthy and available for next season.
At the end of March, Paix signed a two-year extension that would keep him at Red Hill until the end of the 2028 season.
Now that Paix has been ruled out for the remaining four games, Michael Maguire has plenty of options to utilise at hooker.
Since Billy Walters returned after recovering from an ACL injury he sustained last season, he has quickly been a positive spark around the ruck and a positive light in what has been a difficult year for the club.
Maguire also has Blake Mozer and Ben Hunt at his disposal in the position should he need them to play a role at dummy-half.
Paix made 18 appearances in 2026 and made 36.5 tackles per game at 94.5% efficiency and is currently in the top 20 in the competition with 1,345 receipts.
The Broncos will also be without Adam Reynolds when the club hosts the Warriors on Saturday night.
