Brisbane legend Steve Renouf believes the club should sign off-contract Rabbitohs prop George Burgess.

The Broncos forward pack is reeling from the loss of Sam Thaiday (retirement) and Josh McGuire (Cowboys) during the off-season, currently sitting 1-3 on the season.

And despite their plethora of young talent coming through, Renouf has highlighted Burgess as a seasoned performer that can give Brisbane instant reward.

“The Broncos should sign George Burgess. They need a hardhead like him,” Renouf told the Courier Mail.

“Matt Lodge needs help up front. He is an excellent young prop but he needs a senior enforcer to lead the way.

“I know it’s not easy with the salary cap and I don’t know if Brisbane can afford him, but George Burgess would be a good asset.

“I love the way the Burgess boys play. Lodge would be a great foil for someone like George Burgess.”

Burgess turned down a $1.8 million three-year offer from the Eels last month to see out his deal with the Souths.

But the Englishman had admitted that he will weigh up his options when the time comes.

“I would love to stay at Redfern but you have a short career and you have to make the most of it," Burgess told Sydney Media.

“For me, I am always playing for my pride really in myself.

“If I start thinking too much about playing for a contract, that is going to affect me in the wrong way.”

The big Pom will find Brisbane’s warmth a bit to uncomfortable and no family in Donksville but the seas breeze in the East coast of Sydney is what the big buttocked lad desires.

    Burgess will never go to Easts, your dreaming, i know you would love to have him but it won’t happen, he has way to much pride for that, but can understand you wanting him after Souths forwards gave it to you guys.
