The Brisbane Broncos are set to secure the services of Newcastle Knights rising star Wilson De Courcey from the 2027 season.

The 20-year-old outside back will leave Newcastle after emerging as one of the club's most promising NSW Cup players, with the Broncos understood to have agreed to a two-year deal per News Corp.

De Courcey joined the Knights system from Penrith in 2023 and has since represented the Australian Schoolboys before making his NRL debut in Round 5 this season. He was selected again in Round 6.

His second NRL appearance came after the Knights had offered him a two-year contract extension; however, De Courcey rejected the proposal following his axing from the centres after just one half against the Broncos, with Newcastle subsequently understood to have withdrawn the offer.

The move will see De Courcey join fellow Knights centre Dane Gagai in making the switch from the Hunter to Brisbane.

De Courcey has impressed in the NSW Cup throughout 2026, scoring 14 tries from 17 appearances while averaging 126 metres per game.

The majority of his appearances have come at centre, although he has also spent time on the wing, featuring in five games in the position.

His arrival will provide valuable depth for the Broncos in the outside backs following the departures of Gehamat Shibasaki and Jesse Arthars.

The Knights, meanwhile, face further decisions over their roster, with Tyson Frizell and Brodie Jones the only other players currently off-contract at the end of the season.

Frizell has been linked with a return to the St George Illawarra Dragons, while Jones' future remains unclear.

Newcastle's outside-back stocks could also undergo further change, with Bradman Best set to hit the open market from November 1 if he is not extended before then.

Asu Kepaoa is currently the other centre on the Knights' roster, although he is yet to make his club debut after joining Newcastle from the Wests Tigers in 2024.

De Courcey's departure represents another blow for the Knights' outside-back depth, while the Broncos have moved to add youthful talent to their squad after a veteran signing spree.
