North Queensland have released Nene Macdonal from their playing squad, with both parties agreeing he needs some time away from the NRL.
Macdonald was involved in an incident on Magnetic Island in late June, where he fleed the scene of a car crash, with his belongings found inside the car.
The 25-year-old is expected to receive a notice to appear in court.
The club released a statement on Friday.

The club will provide Nene with ongoing support and wishes him well in his future endeavours.
