Catalans Dragons and former Penrith Panthers forward Zac Lipowicz have agreed to terms to make the switch to the Perth Bears in 2027.

Fresh reports from ESPN reveal that Lipowicz will join the Bears following significant interest from clubs in both hemispheres.

The Catalans Dragons provided a statement on Wednesday confirming Lipowicz's departure from the club and that he will make the immediate switch to Wakefield on the eve of the Super League transfer deadline cut-off on Friday.

Lipowicz debuted for the Panthers in August last year, but has been plying his trade in NSW Cup since 2023, notching up over 50 reserve-grade appearances.

The 24-year-old forward left Australia for an opportunity to establish himself for the French club, which has now landed him a deal with the NRL's latest expansion side.

His 2026 Dragons campaign finished with 26 games played, where he scored eight tries in his single season in the Super League.

Lipowicz has now been thrust into the side in fourth position with his immediate arrival at Wakefield as they push for their first Super League title in 2026.

The second row forward will battle with Scott Sorensen, Mavrik Geyer, and James McDonnell for a starting position on the edge.

The Bears' signing brings them one step closer to completing their Top 30 squad ahead of preseason training in three months' time.

Mal Meninga's outfit just announced the signing of future dual-code star Asher Chapman from the Illawarra pathways, as they build momentum for their maiden entry.

The St George Illawarra Dragons were one of the clubs aiming to sign Lipowicz in 2027, but he has opted for Australia's west coast.

Lipowicz will line up in his first match for Wakefield against the Wigan Warriors on Friday, local time.
